TASK 1.1 - ILLUSTRATIONS

Research

To begin with, we had to create at least three fruit images, which we would then use to make our patterns. To assist me in designing my fruits, I started by looking up other fruit images online. In which I can use as a reference. I realised that research might take a long time, but it paid of as i ended up with diffrent results.

After researching various fruit images, I started designing the fruits and creating the patterns. This was a pretty long but rewarding process. And I ended up with four fruit illustrations and four pattern illustrations.

I learned a lot throughout this process. I learned new tools that I had never used before. It was a great experience, and I will use everything I learned that week in my future work.

TASK 1.1 Colour Theory

Artboard 2@3x.png
On the colour wheel, complementary colours are positioned specifically opposite from one another. When combined, they produce vibrant contrast. Red and green, or blue and orange, for example.
Artboard 3@3x.png
On the colour wheel, analogous colours are opposite to one another. While still harmonious, this combination offers a little more contrast than black and white. Green, blue-green, and blue as an example
Artboard 4@3x.png
A split is produced, much like in triadic harmony, but one colour is swapped out for its nearby colour. This increases contrast while preserving colour richness. Using red, yellow-green, and blue-green, for instance.
Artboard 5@3x.png
Similar to complimentary harmony, except you use two nearby colours to its opposite rather than the exact opposite colour. This results in less tension and a strong contrast. For instance, blue-green and yellow-green might be the split-complementary colours if the fundamental colour is red.
Artboard 6@3x.png
involves three colours that are spread equally over the colour wheel. This maintains colour richness while adding contrast. Putting red, blue, and yellow together, for instance.

TASK 1.1 Evaluation

This week, we got to learn what typography is. So, I went on to create a type and started manipulating the type to make it look different. I have got to test the drawing tablets, and I found them harder to use than a mouse. But I understand why the drawing tablet can be useful for customising typography.

After experimenting with the drawing tablet and practising with type and learning new methods we went on and designed our typefaces. Personally, I thought that I did well however, looking at it at the end, I knew I could do better, however this time it was different. I had an idea of what I was going to do, but I struggled to come up with anything. So, I was taught two different types of research methods, primary and secondary. With the use of both, I was able to research and find new ideas and ended up with a different outcome.

Throughout this week I learned that typography isn’t just letters on a screen, except it is art that can be manipulated and created the way you want it. But the most important thing I have learned this week was to use more of the primary and secondary research methods to help me with the design process this was vital to learn as it saved me lots of time coming up with ideas.

Overall, I believe that this week went well and that I learned lots of important information that I will use in the future. However, I would like to so much more about using transform effects and the shape builder.

As I heard they are the most vital tools that most illustrators or graphic designers use. Over than that I enjoyed this week, and I am exited to learn some much.

TASK 1.2 - TYPOGRAPHY

Research

This week, using adobe illustrator and the previous weeks skills in the program. I was going to explore typography and desiging typography. And create various typography such as, "Bubble","Punk" and so on. So i went into researching various typography art and try to recreate them.

I selected these images so I could use them as inspiration, try to replicate their style, and add my own style and touches to the final design.

After researching images for inspiration, I was going to create typography designs in Adobe Illustrator and review them.

The research process didn't last really long; it only took me 15 minutes to find these images, which meant I had lots of time to design this kind of typography.

I also used primary research to follow alone with a YouTube tutorial to help me understand tools like the pencil tool and the transform effect tool. I found this research method a lot better than using secondary research methods in my opinion.

TASK 1.3 - PHOTOSHOP

Research

This week, we had a chance to use Photoshop to create a face mashup, design packaging, and a movie poster. Personally, I have been using Photoshop prior to this week. I understand the basic interface of Photoshop, so I had a massive advantage this week. To learn new skills, we were given a task to create a face mashup and experiment with tools like the masking tool, blend tools, and much more.

After creating a face mashup and getting more comfortable using Photoshop, I moved on to creating a series of mockups using the patterns that I had created the first week. Just like for the face mashup, I went to research mockups and brand designs.

Before creating my face mashup, I had to do some secondary research to find some images that I could use to create a face mashup. I selected a few images and started creating a face mashup.

Creating mockups and packaging designs was fun, but I couldn't wait to start creating a movie poster. Our task was to research movie posters and create movie posters.

Personally, I am in love with football, watch it daily, and just have a massive passion for it. So I thought that it would be easier to make something I have interested in.

TASK 1.3 Evaluation

This week I have been tasked to learn a program called Adobe Photoshop. However, I personally already have used Photoshop before, so I had a basic understanding of the interface and tools such as the masking tool. The brief told us to create a face mashup, mock-ups and a movie poster. I knew that this week would be challenging as there is a lot to complete, but I got on to researching and using my primary and secondary research to help me understand how mock-ups work and what a movie poster looks like.

Honestly, I found the tools to be easy to use and I had no problems with the tools. I was surprised about a new tool called the puppet warp tool, that enables you to manipulate somebody’s limbs. But overall, I felt confident that I could use the tools to create some interesting effects.

After designing my poster, mock-ups and the face mashup. I believe that it didn’t go to plan, as the face mashup hasn’t looked as I wanted it to look. However, I understand that I can easily improve the work in the future by already understanding more tools and techniques which I can use in future designs.

Through this week, I have learned a lot about the masking tool, more than I knew, I found out how to remove a subject from a background by using the subject selection tool, which is a brand-new tool that has been introduced in Photoshop.

I would like to know the theory behind photo manipulation, so I can have an understanding of what I should be doing to create the best design. I would like to learn the golden ratio to be able to position my subjects in a way that looks natural and seamless.

Overall, this week went by, and I enjoyed learning new techniques and tools, as I understand they will be vital in my future designs. I can’t wait to move on to doing much more with Photoshop.

TASK 1.4 - CAMERA

Research

This week, using our primary and secondary research methods, I was going to learn how to setup a camera to then take photographs with different modes such as A,M, S, and Auto. I found this task to be the most time-consuming, as I went on to watch lots of videos on how the camera modes work and how they can be used.

To show my understanding of the camera, I went on to record a video of me explaining how each mode on a camera works. I wanted to do it live, but at the end of the day, I wanted to be unique, so I decided to record a voiceover to be more unique and create a video inspired by YouTube videos.

I have a video explaining it down below.

TASK 1.5 - PHOTOGRAPHY

Research

This week was photography. We were going to use the previous week's skills, such as using a camera to take photos. However, I soon found that using the camera wasn't enough and that I needed to learn a new skill, "photography." I went on to research a specific photographer called "Dan Baker". It was easier to research him as he was a local photographer from Cleethorpes.

Using my research methods, I was able to collect a few of his images and a range of shots. To see more about Dan Baker, check out my blog to see me explain his best shots.

So, I went on and researched Dan Baker's portfolio and picked out one of his best photographs. I already felt like I could achieve a similar outcome, so I used his photographs and analysed his range of shots so I could recreate his style. After, I went on to learn the rule of thirds so I could improve in composting the subject and make it look natural.

TASK 1.5 Evaluation

This week, we are going to do more than just learn the theory; this week will be practical. We were all going to Cleethorpes to take photographs in the style of Dan Baker and edit them in a new programme I have never used called Adobe Lightroom Classic.

I knew this was going to be a great week as I started to love using the camera more in a different environment. But first, we were told to take pictures around the college to get an understanding of photography.

The location for this photography week was great; it had great scenery of the ocean and interesting objects that I have taken pictures of.

After the trip, I went on to enhance the images in Adobe Lightroom. My goal was to make the images stand out more through colour correction, to make them look and feel like the camera has taken them and they don’t look exaggerated.

Overall, I think that this week has been a success, as I gained lots of valuable information about photography, specifically learning more about the exposure triangle to take the best photographs possible.

TASK 1.6 - STUDIO

RESEARCH

This week was going to be studio photography. We were going to learn new ways to take pictures in a controlled environment where I was able to control the outcomes. I used my primary research method to learn how to setup lighting and show my understanding of lighting and how it can be controlled to make a better-looking photograph.

I have also used secondary research, by looking at what other people do when setting up lighting in a controlled enviroument. Made sure to implemt lots of rage of shots in my photography.

My next task was to take photographs of models and eventually edit them to create a Vouge-style magazine. I went on to research many popular magazines and how they are laid out. I looked at examples of existing magazine covers and tried to replicate something similar.

TASK 1.6 Evaluation

This week, we had the opportunity to improve our skills in a controlled environment instead of a non-controlled one at a photography studio. On the first day, we learned about different types of lighting and the effects they can create in photographs. The highlight of the experience was when we got to work with models. It was amazing because we not only got to take pictures of them but also learned how a professional photography setting operates.
image.png
Working with the models was great! They were friendly and open to my ideas. However, we faced a small issue at the beginning when our lights did not work. Thankfully, we identified and resolved the problem. After taking the photographs, our next task was to edit them using Adobe Lightroom. We aimed to create a magazine cover in the style of "Vogue." I had a lot of fun designing my magazine cover, and I think it turned out well. With the help of Photoshop, I added typography and other effects to enhance the subject and create an impressive Vogue-inspired cover.

TASK 1.7 - PORTFOLIO

RESEARCH

This week's task was to learn and build a portfolio that made sure that the potential prospects can use my portfolio to see my work easily. I wanted to make sure that my website stood out in the market and make sure to make it intrigue and attention grabbing.

I went on to researching portfolio websites, in which would help me get a brief understanding of how a portfolio website is structured. This process was the most important process of the entire portfolio task, as This really helped me get ideas and start building upon them ideas to have a fully fletched website.

So here is my analysis of example of a portfolio website:
image.png
What I have done to find this portfolio website, I researched using secondary research by Googling examples of portfolio websites.  I chose this portfolio websites for a reason, I noticed that the main navigation of this website, is basic but still clean.

Which inspired me into creating a cleaner and not too complicated portfolio website that the potential prospect is able to navigate through it easily and get to my work I've created faster.

Overall is very important to make your websites responsive and easy to use as possible.
image.png
After going through this website and many others, I found that most portfolio websites have clickable links on there project. Which in my opinion is very clean and very responsive.

How that I wanted to be more unique and create a different style of a portfolio website. So, after researching and analysing websites I went onto wix and started creating My Portfolio website from scratch.

My first time in wix was difficult, however over time I learned new skills and new tools that I could use to create a clean looking portfolio website.
image.png
This is my intro to the portfolio that I have created using the tutorials on wix.  Personally, I wanted to go for something different, I wanted to build a website that is unique to my own style.
image.png
I have noticed that a lot of navigations have a home about me potentially A blog and information, i made sure to include these in my website however I didn't want to make it look clunky, so I created a a bar that you could click on that will lead you to various parts of my site.

Overall, I think my website didn't look bad at first, however I knew that I needed some feedback on this website that I could improve it.  I went through and analysed my website and made sure to make the navigation a lot easier to use. So I went on and improved how a user is able to go through my website without any trouble.
Here are some examples of portfolio websites i have used for inspiration:

TASK 1.8 Evaluation

This week, we were going to learn how to edit a music video and the theory behind music videos. I believe that music videos are a great way to learn video editing, as they are entertaining and teach you loads about the music industry and why musicians use music videos.
My first task was to research various music videos and explain how many cuts, locations and rage of shots they have. This helped me understand music videos and how I can implement them techniques is my own work.

To See My Music Analysis Go To My Blog!
I was able to have a basic grasp of how music videos are created and the reason behind various cuts and camera angles after completing study on and analysing them. I was given the music and the video footage to make a music video that fulfils the requirements.

I took time to watch every single clip and select the ones that I could use. I wanted to give it something different, so I made a story-driven lip-synced music video. My goal in creating this music video was to use storytelling to create a music video that has meaning to it.

Using my knowledge in Premiere Pro I was able to create a draft a music video with the footage I have been provided. I've had many clips that I could use so I had to chose a few that worked together for the story to be told.

This week I learned a new tool that I had never used before called the "Remix" Tool to shorten the duration of the music from a long duration to a shorter duration. I found this tool to be very helpful to shorten down any song from a long duration to a shorter duration without cutting out the music completely, making it sound forced. However, there were a few drawbacks to using this tool. Using the remix tool meant that the music was slowed down and the lip-syncing videos were not going to work perfectly with the new shortened music.

So it was hard for me to sync the video with the music perfectly. However next I will make sure to use a manual approach to syncing the music to the footage. This mistake has made me understand that it is important to sync the music with the video as it makes it looks natural.

Now I didn't mention that I needed to select the right song that would suit the emotion and story in the music video. I selected a song called "Don't," and it was provided with the footage. I also used a second song to create a second music video that was also a love song, and it was called "Breathe".

Personally, I think that the music videos I have created are actually good for my first music video. However, I noticed that I could improve and make it a lot better. Next time I work on video editing for my future projects, I will make sure to improve my skill at lip syncing and make it look better. This week has taught me a lot about how music videos are created and how they are worked on in the media industry. I am excited to work on future projects in video editing.

TASK 1.9 Evaluation

This week’s task was for me to develop an understanding of editing fundamentals for film and TV while also learning new techniques such as the J and L cuts. My first task was to explore the different types of camera angles used in TV and film, why they are used, and how long the duration of each shot is.

This played a very crucial role in my video editing later.

To see my research process and me analysing shots in a movie scene, go check out my blog.
After researching different types of camera angles that I used in TV and film, I was provided with a bundle full of footage to create a film scene that was approximately 30 seconds long. I watched through every single piece of footage, in which I finally opened a new project in Adobe Premiere Pro and started drafting a film sequence.
I have then drafted an entire sequence with all the clips cut up using the in and out points in Adobe Premiere Pro, which I found to be a very useful tool in Adobe Premiere Pro as it saved me lots of time.
Here is a sequence that I have drafted up using J and L cuts, and the in and out points:
1.PNG
After creating the film sequence, I went on to add ADR and ambient sounds to the sequence to make it sound crisper and more realistic. This helped make my film scene feel real and not sound like it was recorded in a studio or that it was said live.

2.PNG

At first, I struggled to understand the range of shots and why they are used, but after some time researching camera angles, it made the entire process a lot easier.

When I was editing the film scene, I was using my theory that I had learned previously to improve how the film scene was going to look.

And if it felt like a film scene that flowed naturally. Personally, for my first ever film scene, I thought that it went well and that I had made sure to use as many ranges of shots as possible to demonstrate my understanding of film camera angles. However, I know that there is lots to improve, such as the colour grading and balancing of the audio.

Overall, I believe that this week went really well, and I am excited to learn so much more about film scenes and how they work.

TASK 1.10 Evaluation

2.PNG
This week's task is to record and edit a 15-second video of a product ad. We did this by first learning how to set up a camera for recording and exploring new features such as fps, PAL, NTSC, resolution, and white balance.

Before I get into what I have done next, I wanted to give more context on what PAL, fps, NTCS, resolution, and white balance are and examples of when they are used.

PAL, also known as Phase Alternate Line, is, in fact, the standard in many European countries. A PAL picture is made up of 625 interlaced lines and is displayed at a rate of 25 frames per second. This way of recording will reduce the virtual resolution in any video or picture to reduce the amount of flickering that occurs. PAL is still a very well-known and efficient way to record. As many TV shows and movies use PAL, it gives the video a more dramatic and cinematic feel.

Next to fps, also known as “frames per second," every single videographer needs to know what fps is and how to use it correctly to create a specific shot depending on the mood or what kind of shot they would use. FPS refers to the number of frames or images that are captured in a second. So, the lower the fps, the slower the video will be; however, in most cases, most big industries use lower fps to create a cinematic feel for them and give them life (like I said in the PAL explanation). So let's give an example of when you would use lower fps and higher fps. The only time you will be using higher fps is when you want to take a video in slow motion, which will require you to have a higher fps, for example, 120 or even 240 with most cameras, but you can have different fps options that could be higher. But if you want to record something that isn't slow motion, you might end up using 24 fps (Europe’s standard) or 30 fps (which is the rest of the world) to create a smooth but cinematic feel to any video.

NTSC is the opposite of PAL, as this mode is used in many countries outside Europe, such as the United States, Japan, and many other countries outside Europe. An NTSC is made up of 525 interlaced lines with a frame rate of 29.97 fps. This mode is pretty much the same as PAL but is used in different countries.

Resolution is the level of detail contained in an image. It mainly refers to how many pixels exist within an image. The higher the resolution, the richer and lower the pixels an image will have. It is great to have higher resolution in any video, as you end up getting a smooth and clean video that makes the pixels seamless. Here are some examples of resolutions that are used in video: 2K (1080p), 4K, and even 8K. There are some pros and cons to using any of these resolutions. For example, using a 1080p resolution is great for a decent-looking quality of video, along with a lower file size, which in a lot of cases doesn't have to be compressed, which saves time. However,  1080p doesn't bring the same feel to any video like 4K and 8K do. However, 4K and 8K resolutions can take up a lot of space with their large file sizes. It can be hard to transfer the videos into any video editing software down the line. 4K and 8K are usually used to take clear shots of an environment or a scene.

White balance is also referred to as the temperature at which the white objects on film look white. But it does not just depend on white; it also depends on the other colours in the ilm. There are many settings for white balance, such as 5000k–6500k, which are natural and are used mostly to take video outside. Even though white balance is important to set up with your camera, you can always fix it up in post-production, where you can adjust how your recording looks.

After learning the different types of camera setting to do with videography, I went on to practicing the different settings, and analyzing how i could use them. The features are going to be very crucial going into shooting the ad and editing it. I have also learned about different types of camera movements and when to use them. Here are some examples of camera movements: doll, track, tilt, and pan.

After learning the new features and tools, I went on to research a series of short product advertisements and analyse what kind of camera movements and shots they use. This is going to help me get a brief understanding of how advertisements are structured, so then I can have an easier time editing the product ad sequence.

Video Editing Process:

At first, I imported the footage that I had recorded and drafted a sequence that was around 15 seconds long. This stage of my editing process went well, as I was able to be more creative with the effects and text.

After drafting up a sequence, I went on to get the music for this ad, which may have been the hardest process of creating this ad.

However, after researching types of music using advertisements, I was able to find the right music that suited the pace of the ad I was creating.

I went on to add text as a placeholder for next week's task. Next week’s task was to learn motion graphics and create text for this ad. However, I already wanted to add some effects and text to visualise how I could create better text with animation in After Effects. After adding effects and text, I went on to add sound effects that helped the advertisement not sound too boring.

My first idea was to shoot the products in the studio and implement the camera movements that are usually used in advertisements.

However, the first time we were filming our product, it didn't really work out for us. However, the second time around, I was able to shoot smooth camera movements of the product, which had very good quality.

Personally, the first difficulty that I encountered while filming was that it took a long time to set up the camera for the actual advertisement filming, which ended up making the video not look as clean as we expected.

After editing the footage, I personally think it didn't go as bad as I thought it was going to; however, the biggest improvement I could have made to this ad is the music choice. I really underestimated how important music plays in advertisements. I thought that finding music was going to be the easiest process, but it ended up being the hardest. In future projects, I will make sure to really do more research on music and what kind of music I should include.

Overall, this week really taught me a lot about film production, which isn't an easy process and could be a very long process. However, this was a productive week, and I've learned a lot by experimenting with creating this ad.

MOTION GRAPHICS (TASK 1.11)

Scroll Down To See My Work

UPDATED ADVERT FROM 1.10

TASK 1.11 Evaluation

This week's task was to create a motion graphic in After Effects and include it in our advertisements that we have created. My first step was to research motion graphic advertisements to have a brief understanding of what kind of shots and animations they use. I found this the most time-consuming process of this entire week; however, I believe this was a very important step.

After researching the advertisements, I went on to learn the interface and the basics of aftereffects. After getting a brief understanding of after effects, I went on to design my typography in Adobe Illustrator, and in the end, it didn't really work out. So, I decided to use the typography in After Effects. which I found a lot easier. Then just create the typography in Adobe Illustrator.

The first thing that I have done is that she created a text, messing around with the text and the positioning. After laying out all my text, I wanted to include it in this motion graphic. and then went on to keyframe the animations to create a pop-up and a slide-up animation. This could have been one of the most time-consuming. I needed to do it with separate text and separate animations.

after finishing with my project. I went on to export this motion graphic as an MP4. which then I included in my advertisement from last week's task. I ran into no problems exporting, and I finally went on to include this motion graphic in my advertisement I created last week.

This week overall has been great, and I learned so much about After Effects. I personally learned a lot about motion graphic advertisements. Then I would be interested in creating a motion graphic advertisement again in the future.

PODCAST THUMBNAIL

Podcast Thumbnail.jpg

TASK 1.12 Evaluation

This week's task was to create a podcast that was 10 minutes long. This task was for me to learn what a professional podcast looks like and how to set it up.

I personally found the podcast to be a really fun way to learn how sound design works. It felt natural to me as I already created content on the internet, so I was more confident speaking to cameras.

However, I believe that I could easily improve my editing and communication with an audience through the cameras.

Overall, I really enjoyed this week, and I am excited to potentially do it again in the future.

REASEARCH AND COMMUNICATION (TASK 1.13)

Y = YES

N = NO

This is for if i used Primary Or Secondary Research

SEE MY WORK BELOW!

Down below is every single task and explanation of what research methods I have used.

Task 1.1 - Illustrations - YY

In Task 1.1, I used the secondary research method to watch tutorials that helped me get a basic understanding of Adobe Illustrator and get started with creating the fruit illustrations. This also helped me learn the importance of colour in graphic design.

I also used primary research to learn the tools in Adobe Illustrator and just messed around with them. I found this method to be easier as I was able to learn through practical practice.

Task 1.2 - Typography NY

Task 1.2 – This week, I learned a lot about the research and design process and how it assisted me through that week.

This week I personally used more of the secondary research method as I already had a basic understanding of Adobe Illustrator, which meant less getting used to the program and quicker the typography was going to be created.

Task 1.3 - Photoshop YY

In Task 1.3 I used both primary and secondary research to get started with designing, I personally watched a tutorial on how to create mock-ups by using the primary research method, and used secondary research to find some good images that I could use to create the mock-ups.

Task 1.4 - The Camera YY

In this task I also used both research methods. Especially at the start. I used primary research by experimenting with the camera by trying to figure out how to take pictures. Secondary research was used when I was going to learn the basic functions of a camera, in which i can use in the future.

Task 1.5 - Photography YY

After using the primary and secondary research to learn how a camera works, I was able to move on to researching photographers (secondary research method) to get inspiration and potentially useful information that I could use in my own photography, I have researched a local photographer called “Dan Baker.” With primary research, I went around college and took some pictures and experimented with the different modes that I learned about in the fourth week. I also used secondary research to learn more about the camera and the theory behind photography.

Task 1.6 - Studio YY

After learning the basics of photography in an uncontrollable environment with the use of the research methods. I used both research methods to learn how to take photographs in a controlled environment and how to use lights to take the best picture. I practiced by taking a few photographs of people in my group, to get a brief understanding of taking photographs in a controlled environment. (Primary research)

Task 1.7 - Portfolio NY

When creating our portfolio, I used the secondary research method the most. What I did was research and analyse how portfolio websites are built and how to stand out in this industry. I haven’t really used any primary research, as I already had a basic understanding of the tool we used to create the portfolio. I found Wix to be a great tool to use, as I was able to build a basic structure for my portfolio and communicate with a potential client.

Task 1.8 - Music Video NY

Personally, I have not used much of primary research, as I already knew the basics and most of the advanced tools in Adobe Premiere Pro before getting into editing the music video. However, I needed to learn a few things like syncing in premiere pro, which I never used before. So, I used my secondary research to analyse music videos, so I understood the theory behind music videos and how they should be structured.

Task 1.9 - Film Scene YY

I have made sure to utilize as much primary and secondary research to create the film scene. I used primary research to learn and practice a new technique called the L and J cuts. I used secondary research method to find and analyse film scenes and get an understanding of camera angles. I found both research methods useful.

Task 1.10 - Video Production YY

With video production (advert) task, I mainly used secondary research to find and analyse adverts and how they are structured, However I haven’t really research anything using primary research method as I already knew the editing process and the new technique called the L and J cuts.

Task 1.11 - Motion Graphics YN

Also, with motion graphics I was able to learn a program that I never used before; it is called After Effects. I used primary research by experimenting with the program and try to practice with It. Secondary research method was used to research motion graphic adverts and use some of the text effects in my own motion graphic.

Task 1.12 - Motion Graphics YN

The podcast task was mainly just Primary research and pretty much no secondary research, During the podcast recording, I was trying to practice my communication and how I sounded, I then used Premiere Pro tools like multi-band compressor to adjust the audio and reduce the high frequency and gain the frequency to make sure that the audio wasnt to loud or to quiet.

Task 2 -

Personally, I found both primary and secondary research useful. I am happy that I have had a chance to learn the two most important research methods that I will use throughout my time in the media industry. Primary research for me was the most practical, as I was able to learn through practice. In my opinion, primary research was the most effective research method that I have used throughout this project. However, secondary research was good for me to get inspiration from existing work so I can see what works and doesn’t. So primary research was me learning and implementing the information and secondary research was used to learn something through seeing what other people did.

COMMUNICATION

Task 1.1 - Illustrations

In this task I created a few fruit illustrations using adobe illustrator. We had to make sure that our fruits looked like fruits and communicate to the audience that it is a fruit. I did this by creating the basic and simple shapes of each fruit. The fruit illustrations were intended to be simple and related to the specific fruit. This is important especially for bigger projects down the line.

Task - 1.2 Typography

In this second task, we were focusing on typography, which is used daily in media products. The skill of typography is crucial in the media industry, as words commutate a lot easier to an audience and makes the most sense. I did this by creating typography in different styles which where Graffiti, Bubble, BANG! Drip, Punk and so on. For graffiti typography I made sure to make it look like graffiti that is used in the real world, however with bubble text, I made sure to make it look calm, elegant, gentle as this kind of typography is targeted at younger children.

Task 1.3 - Photoshop

Photoshop is manipulation software that is used to manipulate and change the look of a photograph. This can communicate a message to an audience. For example, if you were creating a poster for a road trip, the purpose of that media product is to inform you about an event of some kind. If you created an advertisement for an expensive car, the message behind that would be that the car is only for richer people and show how luxurious the car is. In my task, I was told to create a movie poster in Photoshop, and I personally created a movie poster about my supporting football club, “Manchester United." To make a football poster, I made sure to use images that were football-related to communicate to the audience that it was a football movie poster about Manchester United.

Task 1.4 - The Camera

This week's task was to learn the basics of using a camera to take photographs, now a camera is used to create a photograph or a video which can be used in any media product. Photographs can tell a story or give a message and communicate it to the audience. So, learning the camera will be crucial in the future.

Task 1.5 - Photography

Photography is a widely used medium to communicate to any audience. From newspapers to magazines and even social media, photography helps capture and make people have an emotional attachment to. Our task was to take photographs. We went on a road trip to Cleethorpes and tried to capture the wonderful British seaside.

Task 1.6 - Studio

For this task, we had to learn how to take photographs in a controlled environment. With studio photography you can control the lighting in an environment, which allows us to change the colour which can change the mood of the image, this allows us to communicate what the mood of the image is.

Task 1.7 - Portfolio

For this task I had to build a portfolio website to demonstrate the work to everybody. Websites have become a massive method to communicate to an audience in the last decade. It is incredible how easy we can access information through websites, it only takes a few clicks. Websites are used to sell, promote and even create content on. It can also help demonstrate your skills by building a portfolio. I use websites to promote my work to other people that might be interested in my work. I looked and researched websites to get a basic understanding of how portfolio websites are structured.

Task 1.8 - Music Video

Music videos are designed for a specific target audience, for example, if you made a pop structured music video for a rock band, the audience that enjoys rock music will dislike the music video. That is why it is important to create a music video that will communicate towards the right target audience. So, for pop music, I would make sure to make it happy, bright and fast paced, but for a heavy metal band I would make it aggressive, gloomy, evil with also making it fast paced.

Task 1.9 - Video Editing

In film/TV we make sure to use camera and sound techniques to communicate a message to an audience, in film, we use camera angels to get a more cinematic and a serious look to the film, we can also use sound effects to exaggerate the scene to make it more tense and have the audience have an emotional attachment towards to the movie/film. With the news, they would make sure to use different camera angels to communicate the message.

Task 1.10 - Video Production and Task 1.11 - Motion Graphics

Advertising is in my opinion the best way to promote a product and communicate towards a specific audience. We can promote and communicate by changing the mood by changing the music and editing in a different style, so for example, I created an advert that was meant for a younger audience that liked capri-sun, I made sure that the advert was fast paced and to suit the mood and tone of the advert, it is really important to keep in mind what your target audience is and how to create something that is relatable to the audience.

Task 1.12 - Podcast

With podcasts, this is the best communication method as it is spoken, this is the best way to communicate your message to audience as all we need to do is to improve the audio and make our voices heard. This is a new and improved version of a radio (in my opinion) as it is easier to communicate to somebody when you can see them talk. I personally made sure to make the podcast as entertaining as possible.

Task 2 -

I really enjoyed anything to do with video editing and film. I found that I really enjoy creating and editing videos, which has been my passion for so many years. I also found that photography was fun, especially studio photography. I would personally like to continue with film and continue to learn and practice. However, I really didn’t enjoy using Adobe Illustrator for illustrations. I found it hard and boring. However, I think I need some more time to get settled in and learn a lot more about graphic design. Overall, I really enjoyed this project, and I wish to do more video production or photography.
